Growing into the Future with the Strategic Plan

Windrush School is engaged in a continuous quest to provide our students with a rich academic, social, emotional, and physical educational
experience that ensures their ability to thrive in whatever future awaits them. To that end, we listened to the voices and perspectives of
hundreds of students, colleagues, families, trustees, and community supporters last year to develop the 2009-2014 Strategic Plan. This new
roadmap for the future builds upon our school’s rich past and provides growth objectives for five pivotal areas of our school:

  1. Expanding our academic program for K-8 students
  2. Building upon our authentic school community and character
  3. Planning for our long-term fiscal security and creating scholarship opportunities to support a broad range of students
  4. Celebrating, nurturing, and retaining our exceptional Staff, Faculty and Administration
  5. Integrating sustainable design principles throughout our campus structures and landscape.

What’s new and exciting?

While some of our new initiatives will be evident immediately, others will take the full five years to implement. Our students, families, faculty, and alumni can anticipate the following exciting changes. Windrush School will:

  • Expand musical education and literacy for all students through our Performing Arts program, encouraging creative connections between music and math, science and language arts
  • Further integrate technology and technical arts into all aspects of our academic program
  • Broaden our social, emotional and physical health programs to include increased emphasis on character education, diversity and social justice
  • Introduce Mandarin Chinese language and Chinese cultural literacy into our academic program
  • Launch a new service-learning program to enrich each student’s educational experience, embody civic responsibility, and strengthen our communities
  • Poise the community to launch a “Campaign for Institutional Access” to fund tuition assistance grants
  • Expand intentional efforts to encourage, recruit, nurture and retain Faculty, Staff and Administrators who bring a broad range of passions, backgrounds and life experiences
  • Improve play spaces and landscape by integrating them with the native ecosystem and further upgrade existing campus structures by using sustainable design principles.

We have great enthusiasm for the opportunities that we envision for the next five years. We believe this planned growth for our school will continue to cultivate in our students a passion for discovery, an appreciation for a wide range of cultures and life experiences, and the ability to contribute fully in a democratic society. Windrush School is grateful to all who contributed their thoughtful guidance to our Administration and the Board of Trustees in the development of this far-reaching plan.
