Overview

Windrush Summer Adventures is a dynamic day camp open to children entering grade one up to age 11. Staffed by experienced adult teachers (maximum student-staff ratio is 12:1), the camp encourages imagination and exploration through engaging projects and activities.

Each day campers are introduced to a myriad of art, sport, and craft options (offerings are detailed in an activity calendar available the first day of each session). Along with the main projects highlighted in this brochure, other daily choices may range from ball tag games in our full-size gym and Frisbee golf on our 4-acre campus to “shrinky dinks” and friendship bracelets, to storytelling, cooking projects and kid-generated constructs and water play on hot days. The clay animation studio is kid-directed and on going; and the potters’ wheels will spin whenever possible.

All campers look forward to the weekly field trips. Destinations are chosen with consideration for younger campers and use chartered buses or BART. Some trips have return times after 3:00 p.m. More information about the camp and field trips will be mailed to enrollees before camp begins.

SESSION THEMES - Guiding and inspiring the teachers and children, our themes make each week at camp a new experience. Not all planned activities are represented in the session descriptions.

CAMP CALENDAR - A detailed activity calendar for the week at camp is available the first day of each session. Information about field trips and policies is mailed to families before camp begins.

DAILY CIRCLE - Campers are introduced to a variety of projects and activities. There are opportunities to change activities and for independent play in supervised areas.

ART - Our facility is essentially an art studio for children. Projects are process-oriented and focus on developing individual creativity and expression through a variety of media and techniques including sculptural mediums, drawing & painting, and printmaking.

SPORTS & ATHLETICS - Fostering a noncompetitive approach, each day we offer sports ranging from baseball, tennis, and soccer to Olympic-style field events and cooperative games.

WOOD-WORKING - Projects are aimed at developing basic carpentry skills and encouraging individual creativity.

ARTS & CRAFTS - Independent projects, such as easel painting, bead stringing, sewing, and knitting, in addition to group activities in arts and crafts are incorporated into all sessions.

COOKING - Cooking and baking projects take place throughout the summer, often in preparation for special events or afternoon snack.

GAMES & GROUP ACTIVITIES - Integrated into each session are activities ranging from water balloon games and capture the flag to group construction projects and whole camp events.

FIELD TRIPS - Sessions are highlighted by trips around the Bay Area. We use chartered buses or BART for these trips. All campers attending on trip days participate.
