The Windrush Middle School is comprised of students in grades 6, 7 and 8, with an enrollment of approximately 40 students per grade. The Middle School offers dynamic learning opportunities that capitalize on the unique cognitive, social, emotional and physical capacities associated with adolescence. We integrate core subjects with enrichment classes, weaving Spanish, fine art, drama, music, technology and physical education into our curriculum's tapestry. A diverse, dedicated and supportive faculty holds these opportunities in trust by creating a challenging, inquiry-based curriculum that reflects the school's key philosophies.
The Windrush Bill of Rights articulates our fundamental philosophy stating, "Everyone at Windrush has the right to learn, play and work in a safe and nurturing environment." Themes of social justice, citizenship and multiculturalism influence teaching and learning in the Middle School. Given our location in the Bay Area, we equip our students with tools to navigate their complex and diverse surrounding communities. Respect, open-mindedness, and conflict resolution are some of the values and skills that we emphasize. Ultimately, we strive to partner with students and families to cultivate mindfulness that will be influential on our campus and beyond.
Our Middle School's main goal is for students to hone their abilities to think critically and creatively. We prioritize process over product, questions over answers, and depth alongside breadth. Windrush Middle School students are exposed to a range of education methods such as project-based learning, service learning and outdoor education. We intend for students to leave Windrush prepared for high school with their intellectual curiosity piqued, and as articulate and confident communicators.
