SESSION 1, June 20-24
AN ARTIST'S STUDIO – Children will have exposure to many fine art techniques including stained glass, pottery, sculpting, acrylic painting on stretched canvas and printmaking. Our whispers at the museum will be washed away by screams and cheers at our kid-run carnival (complete with tokens and prizes!). Field trip to the Oakland Art Museum (6/23)
SESSION 2, June 27- July 1
TUNNELS AND CAVES – For our main project, we will build our own cave and tunnel system using a variety of materials. Other projects will include cave painting, sewing stuffed animals, silkscreening, and constructing a tube city for hamsters. We'll also play field hockey, and miniature golf (on campus). Field trip to Lake Anza in Berkeley (6/30)
SESSION 3, July 5-8 (no camp on July 4)
SESSION 4, July 11-15
MAD SCIENCE – This week brings out the scientist in all of us as we explore energy in many different forms. Our little scientists will make a solar oven, sun prints, windmills, rubber band cars, kaleidoscopes and as a group they will make good use of recycled refrigerator boxes to build a planetarium. They will have a chance to get messy making Gak, Goop and volcanoes. They will also learn about the effects of gravity with our big egg drop event on Friday. Field trip to the Exploratorium in San Francisco (7/14).
SESSION 5, July 18-22
JUNGLE BOOGIE– If your child is interested in animals, this week is for them! Campers will create papier maché penguins, stuffed animals and pet rocks. They will also paint life-size cardboard animals to adorn the campus. We'll collect and observe insects in our homemade creature cage and make sketchbooks to do life drawings at the Oakland Zoo. We'll end the week with an animal-themed, kid-run carnival. Field trip to the Oakland Zoo (7/21).
SESSION 6, July 25-29
UNDER THE SEA – Campers will be treated to all things aquatic as they study marine life, make papier maché sea creatures, and create a life-size kelp forest complete with glow-in-the-dark jellyfish. Other activities in this session will include sand art in a bottle, God's eyes, rain dances and, of course, water games! Field trip to point Richmond Beach (7/28)
SESSION 7, August 1-5
NATIVE NATURE – A boundless source of inspiration and the best place to have fun. Our nature-inspired activities this week will include landscape painting on a river's shores, gardening, making sun prints, pressed flower bookmarks , drums, feather jewelry, and storytelling on our grassy hill. Field trip to Samuel P. Taylor Park in Lagunitas (8/4)
SESSION 8, August 8-12
PAJAMA PARTY! Fun and summer spirit will dominate the final week of camp as we don our PJs and engage in great homespun activities. Kids will watch a movie, draw body art, tell stories and we will cap off the session with a catered evening dinner and bonfire! Also featuring a day of water fun with an inflatable water slide on our grassy field for the last day of our summer camp adventures (8/12)
