Class of '04 alumnus offers glimpse into students’ lives in Fiji
With a sense of humor and practical knowledge, Windrush Alumnus Eliot Tang-Smith shared his experiences about his time on Qamea Island, Fiji, with Windrush students in January.
Windrush’s recent partnership with the island’s school began by sending donated items to the school and will expand into students exchanging letters and video chatting. The Togo Village School has about 80 students in grades 1-8 with four teachers and four classrooms.
“They are adorable and extremely friendly,” Eliot said to students, regarding the island’s children. Eliot explained that the villagers have a communal lifestyle so everyone takes care of each other. “Every kid is really the village’s child,” he said. In December, Eliot’s family (who visits Fiji annually) brought books and other items to the school donated by Windrush families. “What you guys did–collecting books-was awesome,” Eliot said. “They have a lot more books now.”
Eliot attends Brown University in Providence, RI where he studies psychology.
