ORGANIC LUNCHES COMING IN FALL–We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Kid Chow lunch program, which will serve healthy lunches bi-weekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Parent-run Friday lunches will continue. Kid Chow’s Web site provides a “virtual cafeteria,” which enables parents to order lunches and pay by credit card. Students can choose from a broad selection of hot and cold food such as organic fruits and veggies, burritos, quesadillas, savory chicken and beef pot pies, warm pastas, barbeque chicken with mashed potatoes, all-natural hamburgers, chicken apple sausages, veggie sushi, salads, sandwiches, yogurts and more. Look for Kid Chow’s welcome letter in your summer packet. Visit Kid Chow’s Web site to see the menu and learn more about the healthy lunch program, which serves more than 30 schools. HAVE YOU MADE YOUR ANNUAL GIFT? If not, you can help us reach our goal of 100% participation. Did you know our children’s education isn’t fully covered through tuition alone? Tuition pays for 85% of the school’s annual operating costs. “Invisible tuition assistance” amounts to $2,500 per child for the 2008-2009 school year and the Annual Giving Campaign is the primary vehicle for closing the budget gap. Every gift is appreciated and will help put us over the top! Click here to see how your class participation stacks up. To make a gift, pick up a giving envelope at the display in the main hallway or visit our Web site and click on the Donate Now button. Many thanks for your continued support! PLEASE SUBMIT PARENT WORK HOURS–Windrush depends on every family to contribute at least 20 hours of work each school year and the enrollment agreement states that you will be charged $20 for each hour not completed. To account for your hours, please print and complete this work hour form and return it to the Front Office or email them to Teresa Henry. Your involvement in the life of our school helps make our extraordinary community! MAY 30 DRAMA REHEARSAL SCHEDULE CHANGED–Due to conflicts, rehearsal will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on May 31. Please note: That morning, there will be a tree-building workshop. Parents (with or without power tools–think drills) are welcome! Please pack snacks and lunch for your actor as Lisa will work them pretty hard! THIS WEEK’S FRIDAY LUNCH–Grill lunch. If you are not signed up and would like to, you may still sign up by contacting Teresa in the Front Office.

We are looking forward to another great event! Contact Augie Valdez at ext. 278 with questions. ACADEMIC INNOVATION FAIR A ROUSING SUCCESS! Thank you to all who came to the Academic Innovation Fair on May 21. We are so proud of our students’ scholarship and enthusiasm. The fair included a wide-array of projects revealing students’ learning across a spectrum of academic subjects. On exhibit were representations of the planet’s diverse biomes as well as the cultures and civilizations hosted by such ecosystems. There were also depictions of Medieval Europe featuring such groups as heretics, noblemen and monks. Other projects ranged from physical science (how water can be split using electricity and then burned in a car engine, or which types of clothing provide the best heat insulation), to biology (what liquids help plants grow best and how brushing teeth kills bacteria in the mouth), to human behavior (homemade lie-detectors and whether middle schoolers can identify subtle facial expressions). The event was emblematic of the magic that is possible with brilliant educators, dedicated students and committed families. YEARBOOKS FOR SALE–Buy your yearbook now, it’s really easy! Just fill out this form, attach a $30-check and bring it to the Front Office.
