About 8th Grade English

Welcome to 8th Grade English!

The eighth grade Language Arts course is aligned with the California State Standards, and is designed to further competence in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.  Over the course of the year, students will take on roles as linguists, playwrights, authors, orators, actors, critics, poets, and singers.  Students will work with poems, plays, essays, short stories, myths, and films, many of which have strong interdisciplinary connection to the social studies curriculum.  Emphasis will be on expanding vocabulary, refining writing skills, and the development of greater independence as a reader and writer. Ultimately, students will emerge from their 8th grade study as deep critical thinkers, with a strong foundation for high school work.
