After Chung Mei closed, the Windrush campus housed the Western Baptist Bible College, a school originally intended to train missionaries. The growing college moved from Oakland to El Cerrito during the mid-1950s.
The school was founded in 1935 as Phoenix Bible Institute, but changed its name to Western Baptist Bible College eight years later. While in El Cerrito, the college saw considerable growth after receiving regional accreditation as a "limited purpose liberal arts college" and outgrew the campus.
In 1969, the college moved to Salem, OR where the school added 90 acres to its campus. At the time of the move, 90 percent of students were Baptist. The school is now called Corban College, to reflect the school's broader educational goals and its wider spectrum of students from various churches.
