Moon Jelly

Moon Jellies are cool!

Their scientific name is Aurelia Aurita. The Moon Jelly eats fish, crabs, worms, shrimp, plankton, plants and sometimes smaller jellyfish. They catch their food with their tentacles. Their predator is the Blue Rockfish. The Moon Jelly has a whitish translucent bell 16 inches wide and 3 inches high with numerous short fringe like tentacles and four long oral arms. The reproductive organs can be seen through the bell. The moon Jelly doesn't spend its entire life in the Kelp Forest. The range is common in Monterey Bay and along the California coast, and in the waters off the East coast,Europe, Japan and the Gulf of Mexico. The relatives are Portuguese man of war and hydromeddusae. Some people eat them some people get stung by them.
